Standards Aligned Systems (SAS)

As stated on their website, the Standards Aligned System is a comprehensive approach to support student achievement across the commonwealth. It is broken up into six components : Clear Standards, Fair Assessments, Curriculum Framework, Instruction, Materials and Resources, and Interventions. Clear standards are high standards that establish what all students need to know and should be able to accomplish. Fair assessments are aligned to the standards. Curriculum framework specifies big ideas, concepts, and competencies in each subject area at each grade level. Instruction refers to aligning the instruction with standards involving strategies that are best suited to help students achieve the expected performance. Materials and resources that are used must address the standards. Lastly, intervention is a safe net system that insures all students meet standards.

Below you will first find a link to a lesson plan called Amish Communities. It was created by Denise Standbridge and can be found on the Hotchalk Lesson Plans webpage. After I read through it, I wrote a review on the lesson plan. The review can be found underneath the lesson plan. The third document is a lesson that I made with my partner, Melanie Manento. It is a 4th grade lesson plan involving fractions and how we use them in our everyday lives. Finally, the last document is a lesson that I made with my partners, Melanie Manento and Grace Manero. The lesson is for a 4th grade science class and teaches about the planets in our solar system while using Google Docs.
